Welcome To Our New Old Cockpit!

A part of the boat refit we never intended to do is finally complete - we now have a new old cockpit in our 43-year-old Kelly Peterson 44! 🙌🙌🙌
This four-minute snapshot of the past four weeks work shows how the cockpit went back together after major gelcoat repairs, filling and fairing, and painting.
I never would have believed there was almost as much work in this next phase of reconstruction (as turned out to be the case), but hey, that's sailing boats for you đŸ€Ș
Thanks to all those who played a part, including (but not limited to):

For those who like the longer Vlog-style videos, stay tuned - there's one on this topic coming up next.
In the meantime, enjoy.

Pardey Time at the Whitsunday Sailing Club!

As soon I discovered that the inimitable Lin Pardey would be sharing her story at our local Whitsunday Sailing Club, the first thing I did was ensure my whole family and I were booked in. Like many cruising sailors, I'm a Pardey fan, so the chance to see one of my long-term idols in person, a...

FUEL FOR THOUGHT: How to Remove, Fix, and Re-install an Auxiliary Fuel Tank (The Hobbit Hole Part 1)

After spending an unexpected and extended amount of time fixing the hull-to-deck join, bulwark, scuppers and caprail, it’s been nice to move back inside Brilliant II to continue the interior refit. Next on the list has been our “Hobbit Hole”, or as it’s known to the folks outside Middle Earth, the...

Toe-tally Brilliant!! How to Restore the Cap-Rail on a 45-Year-Old Monohull

We did it!! Well almost
The final piece of our hull-to-deck-join puzzle was the teak toe-rail, which, like everything else about this job, needed a drastic fix in order to ‘cap’ it off (pun intended). When we initially removed the rail from the bulwark – which was a process in itself – some of...

We’ve Been Scuppered! How to Fix Damaged Bulwarks, Scuppers, and Deck Gear Attachment Points

In the words of the inimitable Lady Gaga: “Once you kill a cow, you gotta make a burger”. Or as we Brits would say: “In for a penny, in for a pound”. Both of these sayings refer to that place you go, when you’re so far down a particular rabbit hole that there’s no turning back and you just have ...
