The day we had world-famous Whitehaven Beach all to ourselves
One of the more positive by-products of Covid-19 was a rare opportunity to enjoy 24 hours at world-famous Whitehaven Beach entirely alone.
Well, when I say entirely alone, I mean us three humans, about a million butterflies, and one very hungry goanna.
This seven-kilometre stretch of silica sand is one of the most popular locations in the Whitsunday Islands.
It's iconic to Queensland and Australia, and recognised as a tourism destination around the globe.
Whitehaven regularly makes the cut in 'Top 10' lists of the world's best beaches, published annually by respected outlets like Conde Naste Travel and TripAdvisor.
It's never what you'd call over-crowded from say, a European perspective.
In fact it's usually possible to find a portion of the beach you can enjoy to yourself.
To have it alone in its entirety and for a whole day and night is pretty special though.
The 🎶 is called 'Heartbeat'.

The Sailing Adventures of Brilliant II
Join the Smallwoods - Sharon, Julian, Josh, and Pepe (the Blue Burmese) - aboard Sailing Vessel Brilliant II. Brilliant II is a Kelly Peterson 44, built in 1978. Julian and Sharon bought the boat in Phuket, Thailand, in 2005, and sailed her slowly back to Sydney, Australia. Over the next five years they lived aboard and sailed the coasts of New South Wales and Queensland. They are currently based in the Whitsundays, Queensland, where Josh was born in 2010. In 2021 they began a refit of the water-damaged interior (which had needed doing since the start!), while continuing to sail on mini-adventures north and south of their home port. Sharon is a photojournalist by trade, but realising YouTube is a thing has started creating videos too. You can also follow their adventures on Instagram at @shazatsea.
