Manta Ray Bay on the north coast of Hook Island in the main Whitsunday group. is renowned for its friendly fish.
Big ones.
It's the place to go if you want to see George - who was also known as 'Auntie Albert' when I first sailed to the Whitsundays many years ago.
The 'auntie' part was because Wrasse are 'sequential hermaphrodites'.
Some of them change sex.
if you're a Manta Ray Bay Maori Wrasse, you can be 'Georgina' one day and 'Gorgeous George' the next.
Happily for us humans, these guys enjoy our visits, and so do their pals - the schools of Fusiliers.
Manta Ray Bay is also now home to a reef restoration project, comprising coral nurseries and two underwater artworks - sculptures of (you guessed it) Manta Rays.
