Ep 41. Sailing, SCUBA Diving and Sad Goodbyes. (Sailing Susan Ann II).

I know, I know, we promised an episode a week and failed after only a few weeks! This was not Hayley’s fault tho. She’s had an issue with trying to export the finished episode from iMovie and it turns out there was 1 dodgy frame somewhere that was making it fail. It took us forever to find it! This editing business is NOT easy! Hats off to those who manage it every week but we’ll continue to keep trying.

This week we continue exploring the BVI and luckily Ben from AquaFrolic has just done his diving qualification so I’ve someone to go play underwater with.

The RMS Rhone was a British mail ship that was sunk by a hurricane in 1867 and is possibly the most famous dive wreck in ythe BVI so I really wanted to dive it. Luckily, Benny was pretty keen for me to take him on his first dive after getting his ticket so I had a buddy. We sailed the 2 cats up to Salt Island and picked up a free mooring ball right on top of the wreck in Lee Bay. These days I get all my enjoyment in the water from seeing others enjoy themselves so I loved this dive with Ben’s eyes as big as dinner plates.

From Salt Island we sail to Jost Van Dyke Island and found ourselves a lovely anchorage in behind 2 reefs in White Bay. This is a major party spot with lots of day tourists from the other BVI and USVI drinking in the well renouned Soggy Dollar Bar or even Foxy’s next door.

We’ve spent most of our Caribbean adventure (and indeed our Atlantic crossing) with the crew of AquaFrolic so it was a sad goodbye but it’s time for us to move onto the next place. Our plan was to head to the USVI which being American means we can book our interview with the USA immigration to get a visa for when we finally arrive by boat in Miami. As usual though, Hurricane Irma had a different plan for us and had destroyed the customs office.

Turks and Caicos here we come!
