Welcoming their friends Grant and Elena aboard for New Year celebrations across the Abaco Islands of the Bahamas, Chris and Lisa on SvSerenity faced several critical equipment repairs before getting underway. Essential electrical and deck systems required immediate attention at the dock, including four dead house batteries, a blown contactor, and a failing davit winch that needed full replacement.
Before any cruising could begin, the crew had to address system failures that disabled their primary domestic power and tender handling gear. With “stuff to fix before we could get underway, including four dead house batteries, a blown contactor, and a davit winch that needed to be replaced”, resolving the battery bank and contactor issue restored operating electrical integrity, while replacing the worn davit winch ensured the dinghy could be safely deployed and recovered.
Once boat repairs were complete, the crew set a course across the Sea of Abaco toward Elbow Cay and Hope Town. Visiting familiar shore destinations along the cays, they anchored and headed ashore to Firefly Sunset Resort to enjoy wine and watch the evening sunset over the sound.
Continuing southward through the islands, the crew sailed down toward Little Harbour. Having extensively surveyed and shared both Hope Town and Little Harbour in recent cruising logs, they spent the holiday run focusing on quality time with their visiting guests rather than extensive filming.
Looking ahead toward remaining holiday goals, the crew identified specific New Year objectives, highlighting Tilloo Cay as a central destination they intended to explore in detail and document for their upcoming cruising passages.
The crew had to resolve four dead house batteries, replace a blown contactor, and replace a failed davit winch before getting underway.
The crew navigated to Elbow Cay and Hope Town, visited Firefly Sunset Resort, cruised south to Little Harbour, and prepared to explore Tilloo Cay.
