Peter is not here today so the video is a bit confused. Luckily this description may clarify.

SIDE BY SIDE RIG AGAIN JUNE 2022.
The rig of Exlex evolves. The rebirth off the side by side rig. Planning ahead many years from now for the time after Cape Horn and Chile when you are older.
I like to do a long sail east about in the Roaring Forties to New Zealand. The present boat is too slow for the 14 000 miles from Azores to Dunedin. More hull speed is needed. The plan is to stretch her to 9 meter or about 30 feet. The midsection and beam will be 1.5 meter or about 6 feet. The weight of the hull will only increase marginally from 160 kilo to about 250. The idea is just to get place for the bow centerboard and an electric engine. When I am getting ready with the new hull and accommodation there will be better batteries and electric engines.
A complication with the three in line masts is that I will not be able to work the middle mast from a deck hatch any longer.
With the side by side mast It is far more easy to reach and handle the sails even from the present boat.
Each of my boats is a test bench for the next. I like to make them as similar as possible. It is good if I can get experience from this boat for designing the next.
A problem with the side by side rig close hauled, upwind in strong winds was that if I was to take down one of the foresails to reduce sail area the sailing would become very asymmetrical on the different tacks.
Now I got an idea. The masts are angled outward 11degrees. That way the yards of the lugsails will not touch each other with the sails let out downwind sailing.
This will be fine offshore but in port it will create problems when tied up alongside. The solution to that problem is to have a kind of athwartship tabernacle, a tabernacle that lets the mast lean out 11 degrees to port and the same amount inwards towards the center.
With this device sailing with one foresail will be enough symmetrical on port and starboard tack.
