In a comment yesterday John Welsford, desinger suggested that I should increase the 2.7 sqare meter sail area of the three sails to 4 square meter.
I fact in the video of 6 April at 3:54 min I showed the model with three 4 square meter sails but then I got cold feet and when I changed to skipp the side by side mast and go for three in line mast the area was reduced to 2.7 square meter.
There is a lot of westerly gales south of Cape Horn. Now my feets are getting a bit warmer my courage is returning and I feel brave so it is back to 4 square meter a total of 12.
The thinking is. South of Cape Horn there is 15 – 25 % gales and a one knot current setting east.. It means that there is 75 % of not gales and if progress is to be made that in those days I have to drive the boat hard with a lot of sail.
So I thank John Welsford and I increase the area and hopefully in my chest a Lion-heart will grow.
