I had a very interesting day and night.
Once I started to think of the different configurations of blocks quadrants and drum steering wheels new possibilities turned out.
Now after the days work I kind of got a Darling I call her the Butterfly quadrant.
Of course its not a quadrant at all rather a siamese one one mirrored to make a doubble one.
It takes up a bit more space but is fact more simple than the first one I had in mind the type I used on Duga, Bris and Aluminum – Bris.
Instead of three blocks I now need only two.
It has two dynema 8 mm lines. If one breaks – I do not think it will, they have not broken before – The steering works just fine with one rope.
With two steering wheels I can use different gearing.
The one near the bed is for adjustments as the wind changes. I will make the gearing to that one so that big movement on the wheel produces small changes on the rudder angle.
The close to the aft deck hatch will be fast for maneuvring in harbors and close to land.
Also the lines are very visible. Do I see chafe, heaven forbid, it is easy to replace the chafed one as the rudder is still locked and in in control.
I am glad over how it turned out. Sometimes luck smiles.
