In this exciting episode of building the boat molds, Sven Yrvind is joined by his old friend Borka, an ice hockey player who has proven himself handy with construction projects. Together, they embark on the process of creating molds for their latest eco-friendly boat design.
Sven and Borka Collaborate to Create Boat Molds
They begin by focusing on the old boat that Sven has been sailing with for a long time. He realizes that he needs to make some changes to the design, such as getting closer to the front and raising the angle of the rudder. Additionally, they decide to rearrange the hatches on the deck house to create a more efficient layout.
The Importance of Stability
Sven emphasizes the importance of maintaining stability in their double-ended sailboat. He discusses how having ballast keys contributes to a better sailing experience and overall balance.
Building the Molds
As they begin building the molds, Borka starts by screwing them into the angles. Sven admires the precision and attention to detail in their work, ensuring a perfect fit for the final boat. The molds are made from particle board, providing a strong foundation for constructing the eco-friendly sailboat.
The Perfect Sail Area
Sven explains that each of the sails is 3 square meters in size, with booms measuring 1.75 m long. This sail area is more than twice that of their previous boat design. Although it may be shorter and a double-ended vessel, the increased stability due to ballast keys provides a more enjoyable sailing experience.
Borka’s Contribution
The duo expresses gratitude towards Borka for his assistance in cutting the boat into place. His ice hockey skills have proven useful on the construction site, and they appreciate having him as part of their team.
An Impromptu Celebration
Sven reflects on his recent idea to modify the boat’s design by taking a moment to enjoy ice cream with Borka. This celebration marks another milestone in their journey towards building an eco-friendly sailboat.

Sven Yrvind
Hi My name is Sven Yrvind. I design, build and cruise small boats. 1962 I left Sweden in 15 feet converted Blekingseka. I soon found out that there was room for improvement. To understand the basic I began to study mathematics and engenering. 1968 I sailed to England via many contries in a converted 13 feet rowing boat. People told me I be more happy on a bigger boat. November that year I found a wreck an old steam launch build 1885 I converted her to a staysail schooner and sailed her to Rio de Janeiro. That voyage advised me that a bigger boat do not bring happiness, happiness is an inside thing. I designed a 6 meter doubble ender built her in my mother basement. Tried to sail around Cape Horn with her but was capsized and pitchpoled. Later I built an 5.9 meter boat in her I rounded Cape Horn in the southern winter June 1980.
