Welcome to our channel.
We are now in season 7
In 2018 we left the UK to sail around the world slowly. After Brexit, a "Pandemic" and major heart surgery we are still sailing, documenting our travels and showing you what we have learned so far.
We are hoping to complete our journey, and travel right around the world even if we have had a few setbacks along the way. We will continue at our own pace and that may be fast or slow. We want to be sure not to miss anything and have stories to tell our grandchildren when we are old and grey.
Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.

We do have a second channel YOUR DRONE TV It is a mix of music from classical to blues, from Opera to Punk all with stunning drone footage.

Impavidus Crew Embarks on Epic Dash Across the Aegean Avoiding Fierce Meltemi Winds

This week, SV Impavidus takes on an exciting challenge – a dash across the Aegean Sea to Athens. But they quickly discover that the powerful Meltemi winds are far from fun.

The Perils of the Meltemi Winds

Meltemi winds are notorious for their strength and unpredictability in the region. The crew knows that these fierce gusts can vary significantly by the minute, making navigation a delicate balance.

An Early Morning Departure

In hopes of avoiding the worst of the winds, they set off early one morning from Monastery Bay on C. With the sun rising and very little wind at their backs, they chart a course around the islands before them.

As they motor out, they contemplate their plan and discuss how they’ll negotiate the waves ahead, knowing that the winds’ strength depends heavily on location and time of day. The crew also notes the importance of keeping a keen eye on the weather forecast.

Navigating Choppy Waters

They manage to navigate through the smaller waves but soon come face-to-face with the reality that this voyage will require them to face some of the more challenging conditions they’ve seen in quite a while. As the winds continue to strengthen, it becomes evident that a difficult choice awaits them.

A Strategic Turn Back

Deciding that pushing onward would not only be unenjoyable but potentially unsafe for both their vessel and crew, they choose instead to turn back. With a 10-day stay at anchor ahead of them in calmer waters near Athens, the decision is made.

The journey takes a thrilling turn as they weigh their options carefully and determine that facing these waves head-on was not the most enjoyable experience or an efficient use of their time. The choice to retreat is met with relief but also curiosity about what adventures may lie in store during their extended stay.

An Unexpected Pause

This unexpected stop gives the crew an opportunity to tackle some boat maintenance issues, such as repairing broken straps that hold the camera steady on its mount and dealing with a malfunctioning Macbook, which had led to difficulties in video production. While the anchor holds firm in calm waters, the crew takes this time for some R&R, venturing out on a rented car to explore the local markets and sights.

The episode concludes as the Impavidus‘s crew reflect on their decision-making process and emphasize that safety must come first during sea travel. With 10 days in anchor paradise near Athens ahead of them, they’re ready for whatever lies in store next.

I Couldn’t Save the Cat!

A peaceful afternoon at anchor suddenly turned into one of the most dramatic incidents I've witnessed in years. What I first thought was a catamaran anchoring too close to SV Impavidus turned out to be something far more serious. With nobody on board, the yacht had dragged its anchor and was dr...

The Night Malta’s Fireworks Shook Our Boat!

We were expecting Malta’s fireworks to be spectacular. We weren’t expecting them to explode directly above Impavidus from morning until after 11 o’clock at night! The thunder flashes and maroons were so powerful that they shook the boat. By morning, Impavidus was covered in burnt paper, string, fir...

In this Weeks video, we take a look at the market in St Georges bay. Has it changed or is it still the same? We take a gentle sale round from St George's Bay to Manoel Island. I go to the childless to pick up some gear and the boat gets a jolly good tidy up why because Cindy is on her way back....

Have you ever plugged your boat into shore power and simply assumed everything was safe? After an electrical fault aboard SV Impavidus, I decided to investigate exactly how marina shore power works, what reverse polarity actually means, and whether our boats are really as well protected as we think...

Crossing the Mediterranean Solo | North Africa to Malta – Part 1

Leaving Tunisia wasn’t as simple as slipping the lines. In this episode I set off solo from Monastir on a 98-nautical-mile crossing to the Italian island of Lampedusa. The plan sounds straightforward, but there was one problem… I had just over 13 hours to get there before darkness fell. The route ...
