Hi! We are Ben & MP and we now own a massive wooden schooner that needs A LOT of work done. Many people told us the boat we chose was doomed, but we refuse to settle on that thought and we are going to do whatever it takes to make this boat a happy sailor again. We are both rookies when it comes to boat ownership and carpentry, so this is going to be a steep learning curve for us which we are ready to embrace. Luckily we found an amazing team of shipwrights that accepted the challenge of bringing Yabá back to life. But we are not only watching them work, besides documenting everything, we are also very keen to learn so we can do as much as possible ourselves, always knowing when to leave it to the experts. Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 138
In this episode of our boat restoration, we try to draw our waterline! Seems like no big deal, but it was a huge one! As you probably know, Yabá was first built in a beach in Bahia in the most handmade and simple way possible, which means, we don’t really have blueprints or technical information about her that could help us with this task.
How do we know it’s correct? We don’t!
We will only find out once we hit the water. So all that’s left to do now is hope for the best!

Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.
