In this episode we are finally ready to push North from Bocas Del Toro in Panama. It is not easy to find a good weather window to dig yourself out of the bottom of the Caribbean Sea and this first leg of the journey requires some creativity in our passage planning.
We arrive in San Andrés, a Colombian island in the Caribbean Sea that is closer to Nicaragua than Colombia but is a hive of holiday makers and locals which gave it a fun and exciting vibe we weren’t expecting.
We make the most of our few short days and get some kite surfing in, take a buggy around the island and plan for the next leg to Cayman Islands through notorious pirate waters. There has been over 20 reports of piracy or attempted piracy in this area within the last 5 years and we take these seriously and discuss our options while in the safety of the harbour… but what will it really be like when we get out there? Is it all hyped up or is there some truth to these attacks?… Find out next time!
NB: Masks were still required in some places at the time of filming.
