From Chagos to Seychelles – 1,000 Nautical Miles at Sea | S5 E10

After our visit to remote Chagos, it was time to set sail once again.

In this episode, we make the 1,000 nautical mile passage from Chagos to our first African country — Seychelles. With a band of storms sweeping across the Indian Ocean, we chose a lighter wind route just north of the system. The result? A comfortable… but slow seven days at sea.

Offshore life quickly settles into rhythm — sail changes, night watches under a full moon, and even a rather messy stowaway who decided our mast was the perfect perch.

With no shops in Chagos and having left the Maldives weeks earlier, we were stretching provisions into week four. Fresh food was running low — until the ocean delivered.

As we crossed the shallow banks approaching Seychelles, the hand reels came alive. Different species, one after another, lifting morale and reminding us why we love this life.

After seven days offshore, land finally rose on the horizon.

Welcome to Seychelles.
