In this episode onboard our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran, we spend a day with our friends, Ted and Catherine from SV Lucky on the Spirit of St. Martin watching the annual Heineken Regatta races. Then we got lucky with the weather and sailed to Saba, a passage that everyone told us not to bother with. “There’s no place to anchor, no beaches, and it’s too rolly. Don’t bother!” they said.
Well, we are so happy that we didn’t listen to everybody. We saw a weather window and took it, hoping to be fortunate enough to snag one of the four mooring balls on the west side of this magnificent Caribbean island. There’s room for about four sailboats on the south side near the harbor, but that was completely full when we got there. Our Plan B was to keep sailing to St. Eustatius (Statia). Luckily, Plan A worked out for us.
Saba is a fabulous little island. With a general population of just 1500 people and some of the best hiking and views we’ve ever seen, it’s truly a hidden gem.
We also feature new music from two of our favorite Blues musicians, Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia, on their Blood Brothers CD.
Thanks for watching and happy sailing!
