A Naked Waterfall and the Most Beautiful Beach in Dominica. E102

In this episode, we decided to rent a car for a few days to see the rest of the beautiful island of Dominica. Our first stop was Cold Soufriu00e8re, a spot in the crater of an old volcano where cool water bubbles to the surface.

Cold Soufriu00e8re is like some cold water with bubbles coming up from the volcano, making it cold instead of hot. We were intrigued and determined to find out what it was.

Exploring Screw’s Sulfur Springs

Next up, we visited a place called Screws, owned by a guy named Screw. It’s a collection of hot and cold sulfur springs that he and his friends have been building themselves.

A Naked Waterfall and the Most Beautiful Beach in Dominica

We then set off for Baddy Boo Beach, which is supposed to be one of the most beautiful beaches on Dominica. After a bit of a hike, we think we found it, and indeed, it is a stunningly gorgeous beach.

The Banana Llama Eco-Lodge

We left our car in Portsmith and drove to the banana llama eco-lodge for a couple of days. This place was the brainchild of Andy and Melissa, a South African couple who wanted to build an off-the-grid retreat with hiking trails, a river, and a waterfall.

The Challenge of Reaching the Waterfall

To get to the waterfall, we had to cross two zip lines. Then, we took a bumpy ride in the back of a truck, as there used to be a road with two bridges leading to the lodge, but one of the hurricanes took out one of the bridges seven years ago and the Dominican government won’t rebuild them.

Hiking Through the Jungle

We hiked through the jungle, going up a river and then over it. Adrian fell in a few times while trying to navigate the slippery rocks, but we persevered.

The Magnificent Nef Falls

Our final stop in Dominica was the Ban Nef waterfall. Jeff’s thing for waterfalls is no secret, and this one didn’t disappoint – it was truly magnificent.

On our way out of the island, we learned that if you’re on welfare in Dominica, you have to work, planting flowers and cleaning trash by the side of the road. This struck us as a wonderful idea.

We absolutely LOVED Dominica, and this is our last video of our time here as we sail our Leopard 45 catamaran thru the Caribbean. In this episode, we explore the hot sulfur springs at SCREWS, spend a few days at the Banana Llama Echo Lodge, visit the most beautiful beach on Dominica, and yes, we get naked at the Bwa Nef Waterfall.

But first, we spend a few minutes exploring the cold gas escaping the depths of the earth at Cold Suffrair. It smelled terrible, but was super cool to see and hear.

Then we soaked in the hot pools, slathered on the mud, and rinsed off in the cold waterfall at SCREWS. Screw is an unusual character who I thought best not to video. But don't let that keep you from making the trek to his pools. He's built this place with his bare hands and with the help of some of his friends. Definitely put it on your list.

Then we zip lined in to the Banana Llama Echo Lodge, an off-the-grid cottage owned and operated by Andy and Melissa from South Africa. There isn't much to do there except take in the serenity that is the jungle, hike the river to the waterfall, and eat Melissa's amazing cooking. She is a chef, after all. Banana Llama! Go there!!!

Batibou Beach is considered the most beautiful beach on Dominica. We had to see for ourselves, and it did not disappoint. We didn't film most of our time there because we just wanted to take in its beauty. And it started getting cloudy, so the video wouldn't have come out great anyway.

Lastly, we got naked at the Bwa Nef Waterfall. Yes, totally naked!

People ask us, "which island in the Caribbean is your favorite?" We used to have a favorite island for hiking, a favorite island for dining out, a favorite for snorkeling, etc. But we don't say that anymore. Dominica is by far our favorite island for everything (except the dining out part.) But that is insignificant to the splendor that oozes from every volcano and river on the island. Visit before it gets too crowded. And if you need any advice on what to do our where to go, feel free to reach out to us.

Happy Sailing!!!
