Season 4 | Episode 61 | Sailing to Cat Harbor

Hello Friends!
On This episode we bid farewell to Little Harbor and all its magic and enjoy a slow sail to Catalina Harbor.

Catalina Harbor, or Cat Harbor as its called by the locals, is part of the Isthmus and Two Harbors. On the side of the island facing the mainland is Isthmus Cove and on the southwestern side or backside of the island lays Cat Harbor. Only a mile of soil separates the two. Cat Harbor is the only true natural “Hurricane Hole” in Southern California and has been used for centuries by ships riding out sou’easters or as we know them today “The Santa Anas”.

Coming in we experienced quite a venturi effect as the winds increased dramatically just inside the entrance to Cat Harbor forcing us to head back out and drop our mainsail.

We pick up a mooring ball for our stay and went ashore and had dinner before turning in for a quiet night on a mooring.
