While cruising in St. Croix USVI our 20-year-old windlass finally has enough. Houston, we have a problem!
We race against Sahara dust storms to St. Thomas to install new solar panels, replace the windlass (it doesn’t go as planned), and do a thorough rig inspection before the planned offshore passage to Grenada for hurricane season.

Join us this week on Sailing Sweet Ruca for some satisfying sailing video!
We are Kate and Curtis about our 46-foot performance cruising monohull sailboat. We are two young-ish (for cruisers) ex-racing sailors from the Great Lakes that sold it all to head off on an around the world voyage.
We brought along our sailing dog Roxy the rescue. She loves boat life!
We aren’t a big YouTube channel like Sailing La Vagabonde and never set out to be influencers. We wanted to return the favor and pay it forward as we were inspired by other sailing channels like SV Delos, Nahoa, Soulianis and Gone with the Wynns.
We still have lots of practice at video making to do, but we hope you enjoy our realism. Our goal is to show you real sailing and cruising life, we don’t stage or script anything, and we are not selling anything. What you see is what you get.
