Exploring Mexico’s Pacific Coast – Sailing Further South Than Ever Before!

In this riveting episode of Sailing Sitka, we join the dynamic duo Jay and Kenna as they continue their extraordinary voyage around the world aboard their sailboat. This season, they are pushing further south than ever before in Mexico, setting course for uncharted waters on the Pacific coast.

With ambition fueling their journey, they set sail from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and ventured through Mexico, always seeking new horizons to explore. Their determination is evident as they overcome challenges that come with traversing such unfamiliar territories. This time around, they’re taking the bold leap towards realizing their dream of exploring everywhere the sea touches.

Their excitement is palpable as they discuss navigating through unfamiliar waters and tackling whatever obstacles may arise in this remote corner of Mexico’s Pacific coastline. As their sailboat cuts across the waves, it’s clear that this adventure has only just begun.

Strategies and Challenges

To prepare for their voyage, Jay and Kenna set off at an early 3:00 AM to avoid a night watch due to Jenna’s dislike for navigating through the darkness. As they leave the shelter of the Bay behind, they must contend with shifting winds and uncertainty about their path ahead.

In a testament to their resourcefulness and perseverance, they find solace in Nick’s early morning delivery of freshly baked bread, chocolate chip cookies, and ramen. This unexpected gesture renews their spirits before embarking on the rest of the journey.

Overcoming Obstacles

The challenges they face along the way further illustrate their resilience as sailors and partners. One particularly daunting challenge is dealing with the lack of space for garbage storage aboard their vessel. They highlight how crucial it is for older boats like theirs to have adequate storage solutions.

Navigation and New Discoveries

Despite a rocky start when the wind died off shortly after rounding a point, they were able to find solace in anticipation of the upcoming destination – Bahia CA. This area offers protection from prevailing winds, ample opportunities for beachside dining, small local grocery stores known as aoes, and even access to internet.

Relishing their success in arriving at this picturesque spot further south than ever before, they are eager to explore nearby attractions such as mangroves and other natural wonders. Their previous experiences have taught them that venturing beyond familiar territories can bring unexpected rewards and personal growth.

The Journey Ahead

As they begin the approach towards their new Anchorage, the sun starts setting, reminding us of how far they’ve come since leaving Victoria. They acknowledge that there may be more challenges ahead but take comfort in knowing that so far, all is well with a ship-shaped boat and a satisfied crew.

Having successfully navigated through these uncharted waters further south than before, Jay and Kenna are excited to share what life has in store for them in this new location. It promises to be another memorable episode of Sailing Sitka, showcasing the couple’s passion for exploring the globe by sea.
