Episode 196 - Rare Treat of Gifts aboard Pickle as we Sail the World!

Sailing on today from this wonderful anchorage to beautiful Datca, with high expectations to pick up some parcels that we have been waiting for, for a very, very long time. We Mediterranean moor for the very first time that’s very exciting. We pick up some well needed water, explore our new location, pick up a bit of shopping and negotiate over receiving our parcels. Sadly one is literally impossible and will have us here for weeks, but the other one from a patron is full of gifts and joy, which causes great excitement aboard Pickle. Finally guys, you get the explanation from Chris about why he crashed his drone...... another one bites the dust!

Thank you to our wonderful patrons, you are really helping to make all this possible! Don't forget to pop over to Patreon to watch all the extra footage, and get all our episodes a week early. Episode 196 – Rare Treats of Gifts Aboard Pickle as We Sail the World

In our latest episode, we embark on a lovely sail from where we anchored in a little bay in Turkey to get some much-needed supplies and visit a lovely local shop. It’s a gorgeous day, and while we were out, we received not one but two incredible parcels from our lovely Patrons!

The first parcel is from a dear Patron named Manu Top – thank you so much Manu for the generous gift!

The second gift box was sent by our daughter, Beth, from England. In this episode, we attempt to collect it but are met with some unexpected difficulties involving Customs fees and doctor’s notes. What a pain in the neck that can be!

Delightful Patrons’ Gifts

Upon returning from our errands, we discovered two amazing boxes of presents for us and our furry travel companions aboard Pickle. Here’s a rundown of all the fantastic treats and surprises:
  • A lovely tote bag with our Sailing Pickle logo (thanks to our Patron Brian!) – perfect for grocery shopping or carrying gear.
  • Cool matching T-shirts for B and I, featuring our sailing adventure logo.
  • Matching sport shorts for Bear, which look fabulous on him!
  • An adorable crochet snoozy thing, as referred to by Chris, for keeping our whiskers warm when we’re in the dinghy or out exploring ashore. (We owe you a huge thank you to Dam!)
  • Orange bikinis for both Nikki and Buddy – so bright and perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and matching each other.
  • A bean for our Patron Brian that he crocheted himself. It’s an amazing piece of craftsmanship!
  • Cool raincoat designs by Chris (a hint to the wife?).

We truly appreciate every gift, no matter the size, from our amazing supporters around the world. They help us keep sailing and exploring new horizons.

Bumps Along the Way

While this episode mostly focused on sharing good vibes, laughter, and wonderful gifts with you all, there was one exciting moment during our outing that’s worth mentioning – a small mishap with Chris’ drone! During their sail to a nearby car to pick up supplies, Nikki and Bear went for a lovely stroll while Chris tested out the drone near the shore. As Chris expertly maneuvered his drone above the water and rocks at high speed, something unexpected happened.

Out of nowhere, a massive sea turtle emerged from the waters! This rare encounter added a little extra thrill to the day’s adventure before the unfortunate incident occurred.

In his attempt to capture this amazing sight on camera, Chris unintentionally flew the drone straight into the rocky wall near the shore. The collision resulted in minor damage to the drone (including a snapped leg and a damaged gimbal), but thankfully, it managed to fly back onto the water where they retrieved it.

Incredibly, this mishap didn’t deter Nikki or Chris from continuing their exciting adventure and sharing it with all of us – just one more reminder that even during challenging moments in life (and sailing), laughter and appreciation for what we have can always bring a little light into the darkness.

To recap, in episode 196, the Sailing Pickle Family sailed from Turkey to restock supplies and received two fantastic parcels filled with gifts and goodies. Despite a small drone incident involving a beautiful sea turtle encounter and some unfortunate damage, they continue exploring and sharing their wonderful experiences on the high seas. We’re looking forward to continuing this thrilling journey with you all!

Don’t forget – stay tuned for future episodes where we might explore upgrading our drone using a repair fund from selling Chris’ dad’s used drones!

Keep sailing and exploring with us! And remember, every moment counts in this adventure of a lifetime. Happy voyaging to all!
