This week, we say goodbye to French Guiana and the South American coastline as we begin our passage north toward the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean.
After waiting nearly a week for a suitable weather window, we finally set sail—only to be greeted by rough seas and uncomfortable conditions during the first days offshore. As if the weather wasn't challenging enough, an unexpected encounter with a vessel conducting seafloor mapping operations forces us into a series of frustrating maneuvers. The delays add nearly an entire extra day to our passage, including hours of motoring and sailing in the wrong direction.
After battling the elements, dodging obstacles, and enduring the frustrations of life at sea, we finally arrive at our destination: Barbados.
Join us for another real-world sailing passage filled with challenges, lessons learned, and the incredible reward of making landfall in paradise.
We are a suburban blended family that has raised our 3 older children and now want to travel the world. After planning and saving for the past 6 years, we are now embracing our dream of sailing around the world on our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran. Follow our journey as we Circumnavigate the Globe in 3-4 years on a budget of $4,800/month (food, communication, fuel, insurance, transportation, mooring/marina & fun). We left the USA in October 2023 and plan to visit 26 countries on 5 different continents all while worldschooling a budding teen in our off grid tiny house.
