Schiehallion, our 37ft custom built sailboat is our ticket to freedom, the vessel that gets us to the corners of the planet that intrigue us. Our second video from Alor, this week we visit the Quran festival at a small traditional town on the coast. They celebrate and re-enact when they were gifted an 800 year old Koran. It was really nice to see everyone dressed up in the traditional Ikat woven cloth and also to be so welcomed there. People wore masks mostly but everyone was very friendly to us, asking me to photograph them and posing for me.
Marie had been fascinated by the traditional Ikat weavers but we had some problems finding them Finally we got shown a place and we spent an afternoon there watching the whole process. Very cool to see the amount of work that goes into each one. Some cloths take an entire month to make and the owner will wear them on special occasions for life.
