This week it is time for Gargoyle to make her second transit of the Panama Canal. This time, we are heading back to the Pacific. A canal transit remains a bucket list item for us it is such an amazing event in a sailor’s life. In this episode we walk you through the preparations we make in Shelter Bay marina, use of an agent, detailed cost breakdown of the transit and then the adventure begins. The first time we transited to the Atlantic was a quick one day event. This time it is scheduled for two days with an added twist. The locks only have one of the two chambers open due to scheduled maintenance so our 1:00 PM start time is delayed and then delayed and then delayed again as ships are being constantly rescheduled to accommodate the single lane traffic. Finally, after over six hours of delay we get the green light, and we enter the canal by night. It is an experience we will never forget as the lights of the canal make this a most memorable night. Stay with us until we tie up to a mooring one-third the size of Gargoyle and bid our advisor goodnight as we spend our first night on Lake Gatun.
