It was a tough start to the season with a 500NM passage across the Adriatic, around the foot of Italy, past Sicily and on to Malta. We had every kind of weather and an engine that wouldn’t start in the middle of the Adriatic leaving us floundering in a patch of no wind, and a forecast of 50 knots the next day!
All in all, though, we really enjoyed the trip. We put in one stop at Otranto in Italy, to anchor while a storm blew through. We will never forget sailing into Grand Harbour Valletta at dawn. Something every sailor should do.
