SDA224 Motoring East in Light Air, Then Beating Into It

Sometimes the ocean gives you a break before asking for it all back.

In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel we motor from Elizabeth Harbour to Long Island under light and variable winds, gliding across glassy calm seas and savoring the rare ease of heading east without fighting the trades. Day two, bound for the Crooked Acklins, reminds us who’s in charge as we beat into higher than expected wind and waves before finally slipping into peaceful Jamaica Bay for a well earned morning coffee.

Eastbound sailing in the Bahamas is never predictable, and this passage reminded us why.
