We BROACH our Yacht! | Sailing Aequus – Episode 3

We go on an exciting mini adventure for 5 days for New Years Eve with @RyanSophieSailing on our yacht sailing Aequus, alongside@thelastpirate on Mikes beautiful Hanse 575 (Ellipsis).

Our last sail of 2020 pretty much summed up the year most people have had… LOUSY!!! In the space of 6 hours we had sunshine, rain, fog, no wind, too much wind and about 5 different squalls that passed through which made a challenging sail to say the least.

We had a reef in the main but one squall caught us off guard and a particularly nasty gust caused us to broach (round up).

After a particularly stormy and rocky night celebrating NYE on the deserted island of Klein Curacao we received a weather update and things were about to get worse..

Welcome to our channel and thank you for being here. After 2.5 years of sailing full time we thought we would share our wonderful journey across the sea with you. After a trip to South Africa to visit close relatives, we met a guy called Darryl.. he was a sailor who had started his sailing adventure back in the 1980's buying his first boat at the age of 28, he told us some awe inspiring stories that literally captured James' heart and mind! He was hooked....line and sinker... With barely any experience between the two of us, we bought a Bavaria C57, ''a bit like my flat in London'' is what I said. With that, the deal was done and there was no turning back. James sold his business, I left my career in London, and that was it, we had 6 months to prepare and get ourselves ready for the biggest challenge of our lives.... Hope you enjoy watching Philippa x
