Sailing life: Could we have caught our sailboat on fire?

This video was going to be a how to install a air filter on a marine diesel. As we were installing the filter we noticed that we had some melted fiberglass on our engine cover. Upon further investigation we discovered why! We are lucky that we did not catch our sailboat on fire. The diesel exhaust pipe broke and hot gas was melting the fiberglass. Living on a boat is full of surprises.
We ended finding a welder to fix our new exhaust system again. Our boat become a disaster with soot everywhere, again.
Beginning to think that we should have an electric sailboat, what do you think?
Is a electric sailboat he way to go, has the technology come along far enough for a cruising boat?
I don't think it is there yet, so we are going to stick with the diesel engine, for now.

Oh and the air filter assembly went just fine.

We hope our video inspires you to explore the world on your own sailboat!
