Day 4 of our Caribbean sailing adventure in the VIRGIN ISLANDS on a bareboat charter through the U.S. and Spanish Virgin Islands!
Today we sail from St. Croix (USVI) to the island of Culebra, Puerto Rico, a favorite stop for cruisers and sailors traveling between the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. This offshore passage gives a real look at what it’s like to sail between islands, manage weather and sea conditions, and navigate longer distances on a bareboat charter.
Because we are crossing from the U.S. Virgin Islands to Puerto Rico, we are required to check in with customs upon arrival. We walk through the customs and clearance process in Culebra, share what sailors should expect, and cover important details for anyone planning a similar sailing route or island-hopping itinerary.
After clearing customs, we head to our anchorage in Culebra, get the boat settled, and take in the stunning scenery that makes this area one of the best cruising grounds in the Caribbean. From protected anchorages and clear water to relaxed island vibes, Culebra is a must-visit destination for sailors.

We are a blue collar couple who enjoy traveling as much as our bank account and busy lives will allow. We love turquoise water, rum, and every place in the Caribbean that we have dipped our toes into.
