Would You Buy a Motorsailer? Cape Dory MS300 Explored
Caliber 33 Used Boat Review: https://www.practical-sailor.com/sailboat-reviews/caliber-33/
If you’ve ever wondered “should I buy a motor sailor?”, this is the video for you. Motorsailers are one of the most misunderstood types of sailboats, blending the comfort and protection of a trawler with the efficiency and range of a sailboat. Whether you're thinking about living on a motorsailer, coastal cruising, doing the Great Loop, or just want a boat that can handle light winds without constant frustration, this deep dive explores the real pros and cons. We break down what motorsailers actually do well, where they fall short, and whether a motor sailor lifestyle is right for you.
In this Practical Sailor-style review, we take a close look at the Cape Dory MS300, a classic 30-foot pilothouse motor sailor known for its solid construction, full keel stability, and comfortable cruising layout. We cover sailing performance, motoring ability, liveaboard comfort, common owner-reported issues, and what to watch for before buying. If you're considering a Cape Dory motorsailer or comparing it to other cruising sailboats, this video will give you the honest, no-nonsense insight you need before making a decision.
