82 - Our Introduction to Australia: Exploring Coffs Harbour

This year, we chose to sail down to Australia in order to escape the South Pacific cyclone zone. And our first port of call was the beautiful Coffs Harbour.
We’d arrived just before a big front rolled through that brought southerly winds, so we ended up staying for longer than anticipated. Fortunately, Coffs ended up being well worth a longer look. We got to do some hiking on an island where migratory birds were nesting, visited the market and rented a car for a day to get a bit further out of town.
On this day trip, we saw our first large Australian road side attraction: The Big Banana. Note, I said FIRST… There are several here in this crazy country!
Oh, and we saw our first wild kangaroos… on a beach! I don’t think it gets much more Australian than that!
