Welcome to Out Chasing Stars! We're Admiral Amy and Captain David and we're currently exploring the world on s/v Starry Horizons, our Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 catamaran. We started out (nervously!) watching our boat get launched in La Rochelle, France in October of 2014. Since then we've completed an entire world circumnavigation, sailing over 37,000nm, and documented it all here on YouTube. We started making these videos to show our family and friends what life was like on a sailboat, and we're still amazed that other people have also started following along. This video marks a (dare I say: triumphant?!) return to the chronicles of our world travels. After helping safely deliver s/v Julia across the Pacific, we were in no hurry to leave Hawaii, especially since neither of us had ever visited before!
We spent a week in total which included a quick road trip around the big island of Hawaii (yes, it’s its own island) visiting the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park as well as a few of the more colorful beaches.
But I have to say the highlight of the week was getting to visit Pearl Harbor. It was a very sobering experience, matched only by my visit to Normandy years earlier, but it was an important reminder of the tragedies of war and the sacrifices of previous generations to help deliver us to where we are today. If you visit Oahu, it should be a must stop.
