👩🏼🤝👨🏻 We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life.
We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.

A special day has arrived as Odd Life Crafting embarks on the next chapter of their journey, beginning with the first welds of their new aluminum sailboat!

In this episode, we join Odd Life Crafting at an incredibly exciting milestone – they start welding together the first panels of their dream exploration aluminum sailboat. This is the beginning of a long journey that holds great promise and potential for adventures with their family in new and unexplored places. Alongside their progress on building the boat, we also get glimpses into how they are converting a cargo van into their home-on-wheels as they pursue this life-changing adventure.
The Build Begins
After over a year of planning, dreaming and hard work, Odd Life Crafting finally begins to see tangible progress in the construction of their new sailboat. The moment is bittersweet, as they reflect on the journey that has led them to this point, while also acknowledging the long road ahead.
The Welding Process
The first step in building their boat involves welding together 5 key panels – two in each side and one at the bottom. Each panel needs to have exactly the right length and dimensions for the boat to remain structurally sound and straight. Odd Life Crafting watches as professionals carefully align the panels, ensure they are straight using string measurements, and then begin the welding process.
As Duca tries his hand at the first welds under the guidance of the experienced craftsmen, we see the passion and dedication that this family has for their boat-building project. The quality and care with which each weld is made are paramount in ensuring a safe and reliable vessel.
Moving Forward
Although the boat is just starting to take shape, there’s a palpable sense of accomplishment among Odd Life Crafting as they share this significant moment with their audience.
