We continue our road tour of Andalucia and visit the spectacular Mosque- Cathedral of Cordoba for some history, religion and cultural studies and then the zoo to learn about the different habits of animals and how they are protected.
We arrive in Cordoba, a beautiful city that reminds me of Prague where my Grandma is from. Then we head into the courtyard of the Mosque – Cathedral or Metzquita Catedral as is known in Spanish.
The history stretches back for thousands of years, all in one place. There was once a Roman temple here and then the basilica church was built by the Visigoths in 572.
After this a Mosque was built by Abd al- Rahman and the space was halved for the two religions.
During the reconquista, the mosque was then extended into a Renaissance Cathedral in 1523.
After the cultural visit, we took the children to the zoo which they were very excited about. Yewan saw his first elephant in his life and we thought the Babary apes were very similar to the behaviour in our family.

The many columns are built from precious stones and the horseshoe arch is built on a wall that faces Mecca.
