We made it to Turkey, and checked in at Datca! (Sailing Dakini - Leave to Roam Ep. 8)
After successfully checking out of Greece in Kos, we start early and sail the very short distance into Turkish waters. While frustrated we still can't sail due to our snapped main halyard we make great time, admiring the beautiful coastline as we motor to Datca.
We make Datca in time to check in, and are stunned by the clear waters and pretty town which we set about exploring. In addition to stocking up on supplies and doing lots of swimming, Al investigates the damage up the mast. We also walk to Old Datca to visit this pretty community, but the real highlight is shopping in our first Turkish market.

Al, from New Zealand and Kel from Australia met through work in 2010 and have been together ever since. Always infected by the travel bug they finally decided to head off on an adventure and started with Vietnam and Laos before heading to Sri Lanka, India, then Cambodia and Indonesia. Their mission is to explore as many off the beaten track places as possible through a slow travel philosophy on a tight budget.
UPDATE!!! After a few years of saving (thanks Covid) they finally did it. They now own DAKINI, a gorgeous Lagoon 421, and are (re) learning to sail while exploring the Mediterranean.

We are Kel and Al, a couple from New Zealand and Australia who have always had a passion for travel. In January 2018 we left our full time jobs and started to travel the world. We spent two years travelling on a budget through South East Asia documenting our adventures as we went before we found a new dream, to buy a boat! Fours years of hard work scrimping and saving led us to our dream. We introduce you to our home Dakini. She is a 2010 Lagoon 421 and we love her. Purchased in Greece we started our adventure cruising the greek islands. Two years later we have sailed all over Greece, Italy, Turkey and Malta with a winter in Tunisia. Our plan for 2026 is to explore Albania, Italy, Malta, France and Spain before the biggest adventure of our lives, crossing the Atlantic around New Years. Exciting times ahead.
