Koufonisia & Schinoussa - amazing islands in the Cyclades! (Sailing Dakini - Leave to Roam Ep. 85)
Koufonisia Island was everything we were hoping for from the Cyclades. Crystal clear water, lovely sand, and no crowds. First we anchored off Pori Beach in an amazingly sheltered bay. We took the opportunity o explore both the rugged north east of the island and also head in to the lovely town for a look around. The next day we dropped Helen and Pete off to the do the same walk, however we sailed Dakini around to pick them up, having an amazing dolphin encounter on the way.
We then anchor off another island for an afternoon of snorkelling, spearfishing and SUPing before we set sail again, this time for Schinoussa. This is another quintessential Greek Island with quite a climb up to the pretty Chora. After some more watersports we set sail, this time into 33kt winds to try to get to Astapalaia. It's a tiring 53nm day, but we made it!

Al, from New Zealand and Kel from Australia met through work in 2010 and have been together ever since. Always infected by the travel bug they finally decided to head off on an adventure and started with Vietnam and Laos before heading to Sri Lanka, India, then Cambodia and Indonesia. Their mission is to explore as many off the beaten track places as possible through a slow travel philosophy on a tight budget.
UPDATE!!! After a few years of saving (thanks Covid) they finally did it. They now own DAKINI, a gorgeous Lagoon 421, and are (re) learning to sail while exploring the Mediterranean.

We are Kel and Al, a couple from New Zealand and Australia who have always had a passion for travel. In January 2018 we left our full time jobs and started to travel the world. We spent two years travelling on a budget through South East Asia documenting our adventures as we went before we found a new dream, to buy a boat! Fours years of hard work scrimping and saving led us to our dream. We introduce you to our home Dakini. She is a 2010 Lagoon 421 and we love her. Purchased in Greece we started our adventure cruising the greek islands. Two years later we have sailed all over Greece, Italy, Turkey and Malta with a winter in Tunisia. Our plan for 2026 is to explore Albania, Italy, Malta, France and Spain before the biggest adventure of our lives, crossing the Atlantic around New Years. Exciting times ahead.
