Another racing sail to Datca, then we enter Gokova Gulf! (Sailing Dakini - Leave to Roam Ep. 95)
In this episode we leave friends in Kalkan and take advantage of a rare Northerly to head west once again. After a slow we get Dakini up to a consistent 9knots with a reef in. A nervous way to start an overnight sail but so rewarding.
We do have to beat our way in to Datca, a town we really love, and we make it in just in time for one of our favourite markets in Turkey. We then sail further west and enter the Gulf of Gokova for the first time. We skipped this last season and are pleased we get an opportunity to remedy this. We are not disappointed. Despite being a little busy we anchor off some amazing ruins in crystal clear water. And yes, we have had the gennaker out again!

Al, from New Zealand and Kel from Australia met through work in 2010 and have been together ever since. Always infected by the travel bug they finally decided to head off on an adventure and started with Vietnam and Laos before heading to Sri Lanka, India, then Cambodia and Indonesia. Their mission is to explore as many off the beaten track places as possible through a slow travel philosophy on a tight budget.
UPDATE!!! After a few years of saving (thanks Covid) they finally did it. They now own DAKINI, a gorgeous Lagoon 421, and are (re) learning to sail while exploring the Mediterranean.

We are Kel and Al, a couple from New Zealand and Australia who have always had a passion for travel. In January 2018 we left our full time jobs and started to travel the world. We spent two years travelling on a budget through South East Asia documenting our adventures as we went before we found a new dream, to buy a boat! Fours years of hard work scrimping and saving led us to our dream. We introduce you to our home Dakini. She is a 2010 Lagoon 421 and we love her. Purchased in Greece we started our adventure cruising the greek islands. Two years later we have sailed all over Greece, Italy, Turkey and Malta with a winter in Tunisia. Our plan for 2026 is to explore Albania, Italy, Malta, France and Spain before the biggest adventure of our lives, crossing the Atlantic around New Years. Exciting times ahead.
