A big sail east across Türkiye when the wind allows! (Sailing Dakini - Leave to Roam Ep. 93)
In this episode we are sailing from Fethiye in a huge collection of tourist boats. The summer school holidays are in the full force. We aren't sure how far east we will get but we agreed at the start of the season that we would make the most of any good easterly flows so that is what we do. We have a great overnight sail around the outside of Kastellorizo and end up arriving inside the Kekova Roads and anchoring at 4am.
We spend the next few days in a really peaceful anchorage in one of our favourite playgrounds. We have a great day exploring the sunken ruins of Aperlae and finding a very anxious octopus. Al really get's into his cooking, and despite Kel getting hammered by stingers we have a great time in the water.

Al, from New Zealand and Kel from Australia met through work in 2010 and have been together ever since. Always infected by the travel bug they finally decided to head off on an adventure and started with Vietnam and Laos before heading to Sri Lanka, India, then Cambodia and Indonesia. Their mission is to explore as many off the beaten track places as possible through a slow travel philosophy on a tight budget.
UPDATE!!! After a few years of saving (thanks Covid) they finally did it. They now own DAKINI, a gorgeous Lagoon 421, and are (re) learning to sail while exploring the Mediterranean.

We are Kel and Al, a couple from New Zealand and Australia who have always had a passion for travel. In January 2018 we left our full time jobs and started to travel the world. We spent two years travelling on a budget through South East Asia documenting our adventures as we went before we found a new dream, to buy a boat! Fours years of hard work scrimping and saving led us to our dream. We introduce you to our home Dakini. She is a 2010 Lagoon 421 and we love her. Purchased in Greece we started our adventure cruising the greek islands. Two years later we have sailed all over Greece, Italy, Turkey and Malta with a winter in Tunisia. Our plan for 2026 is to explore Albania, Italy, Malta, France and Spain before the biggest adventure of our lives, crossing the Atlantic around New Years. Exciting times ahead.
