In this episode, we’re exploring the world of sailboat paint and focusing on easy-to-use, durable solutions for your DIY project. Join us as we discuss and weigh the pros and cons of various products such as All-Grip, Brightside, and Pettit Easy Poxy. All-Grip One option often discussed among professional and DIY boat painters is All-Grip. This product offers a hard finish that’s similar to what you’d find on your car, making it a reliable choice for standing up to bumps and dings. However, many feel that the process is rather complicated and not suitable for first-time boat painters. Brightside An alternative is Brightside, which has gained popularity due to its simplicity. It’s a one-part paint that eliminates the need for mixing or dealing with multiple products, making it an ideal choice for DIY enthusiasts like ourselves. The “wet edge” concept can be intimidating but essential when ensuring no visible lines mar the final paint job. Pettit Easy Poxy Pettit’s Easy Poxy seems to be the most suitable option for us, considering our lack of painting experience and need for an affordable solution. It is known for its user-friendliness and has been praised in online discussions and video tutorials. This product makes a professional-looking paint job achievable even for first-time boat painters. Color Choice Dilemma Picking the right color is just as crucial as selecting the perfect paint product. Although a simple black would be easy and effective, we’re looking for something that stands out – like me! The Decision To achieve the desired color without breaking the bank, we’ll have to mix an off-the-shelf option. A gallon of Pettit white with a quart of Bikini Blue seems like the best way to reach our goal shade while still keeping costs reasonable.
