First Time out NEAR DISASTER!
I just arrived in the USA for the Hilton Head 50th Anniversary Regatta, and things didn’t exactly go to plan!
After being asked to sail a 1983 Hobie 16 ten miles down the South Carolina coast, everything was going smoothly — until one of the stays holding the mast suddenly snapped offshore! With strong wind blowing out to sea, it could have been a complete disaster.
Using a bit of experience, ingenuity, and Joyrider TV resourcefulness, we managed to jury-rig the stay and nurse the boat safely back to shore — and even all the way to our destination at Hilton Head Island.
