A Ritual for Safe Sailing: Japan-Style #travel #japan #shinto

Start the year with me as I witness a beautiful and meaningful Shinto New Year ritual at the marina. A Shinto priest performs a blessing to drive out evil spirits and bad luck, and ensure safe journeys for all who sail in and out of the port. Carl, one of the marina staff who acts as an informal English concierge for visiting cruisers, provides insightful narration about the ceremony's significance. Thanks to Carl, from Yonabaru Marina for helping fellow sailors, Pierre and Evelyn and myself understand what was going on,

This ritual feels especially poignant as I embark on a significant year—turning 70 and setting sail on my new adventure, Chasing the Cherry Blossom 2: Sailing Beyond the Blue Zone. This blessing marks the start of the year and sets the tone for the journey ahead, filled with hope, purpose, and a little extra luck. Watch to the end because i need your help with something.

Join me in this special moment of tradition and reflection, and get inspired by Japan's coastal communities' cultural richness and timeless rituals. The video is about Safety First for Sailors in Japan

Wahine vs. Typhoon Jangmi: Post-storm inspection complete! This wasn't her first rodeo, and she held up great. The only casualty was the old, worn-out bimini. We already planned to upgrade to a hard bimini, so Jigmai just accelerated our timeline! Best of...
