Seikon Battery: Did I screw up the test??

A few weeks ago I reviewed the 100ah offering from Siekon. Many of you comented that I screwed up the test and that Will Prowse found that in his test the cold weather charge protection actually worked. Well in this video I dig deeper into the subject.

Seikon Battery Cold Weather Protection Test

Recently, a few weeks ago, I reviewed the Seikon 100 Ah battery, a lithium iron phosphate battery. While the video covered many positives about the product, I realized I might have missed something important concerning its cold weather protection features. According to the manual, the battery’s charge protection and its performance in frozen conditions are set to a low number that renders it practically useless. This information was mentioned in my original review, and I expressed concern over potential risks, such as users relying on these protections and overlooking other essential precautions. However, some fellow reviewers claimed that these features function correctly. Intrigued, I reached out to the company for clarification and was directed to their engineers who admitted a mistake had been made. Despite their confession, I wanted to verify the issue independently. To conduct the test, I reassembled the battery and integrated it into my camper, where it has successfully powered an air conditioner alongside other batteries – another interesting topic for exploration in future content! The primary challenge in running this experiment was ensuring accurate results. After using a different type of glue than initially used by Seikon’s engineers, I ultimately managed to disassemble the battery and repeat the test. With careful preparation, including setting up a precise freezing environment at 32°F (0°C), we aimed to see if the battery’s charge would stop when exposed to these conditions. As my previous tests had revealed minimal performance during cold weather according to the manual specifications, I suspected that critical functions might not activate correctly under freezing temperatures. After conducting various experiments with and without saltwater solutions, which proved crucial for quickening test processes but also altered results due to corrupting factors such as too fast temperature drops or misleading findings related to battery charge cessation at 32°F (0°C), I came to the conclusion that cold weather protection features do not function correctly in Seikon batteries. This disappointment highlights an incorrect claim made by the company regarding their product’s performance. While acknowledging potential programming issues within BMS units and hoping for rectification in upcoming models, it is essential to approach this battery cautiously when considering its reliability under cold conditions. Until further tests confirm accurate results using genuine methods and materials (freezing water instead of salted ice), treat Seikon batteries as lacking sufficient cold weather protection capabilities. As always, research thoroughly before making a purchase decision.
