Today we bring you an original song Emily wrote and dedicated to the crews of SV Little Sister, SV Sixth Girl, and SV Temptress in commemoration of the trials and tribulations endured while crossing from the Bahamas to Luperon, DR in July 2020. When we finally arrived, we had everyone over for drinks, pizza, and a debut of this tune.

VERSE 1
When I met you, you had a boat.
You said, “Come join my life afloat.”
I said “okay,” and we went out for a sail.
“What if we tip over?” I asked with a glance.
You said, “babe, not a chance.”
That is the be-ginning of our tale.
You told me…

CHORUS
The boat (will/did) not tip over (x2)
We couldn’t tip it over even if we tried.
The boat will not tip over, and
when our (trip is / crossing’s) over
we can say that we made it to the other side.

VERSE 2
I moved aboard the boat that week–
a creaky, leaky piece of antique teak.
It wasn’t great, but I was a good sport.
And so began our romantic life,
of injuries, and storms, and strife
fixing our boat in many an exotic port.
Just remember…[CHORUS]

VERSE 3 (LITTLE SISTER)
We couldn’t get either engine to start,
so we paid four grand for work and parts
to get us all fixed up and on our way.
The roller furler flew off & just miles offshore
Our engines crapped out…once more
You could say it just was not our day.
But at least…[CHORUS]

VERSE 4 (SIXTH GIRL)
We hear a clang…what the heck?
Our mizzen mast crashes onto the deck,
and the tip of it is thrashing in the waves!
Kris yells out, “WHAT THE ACTUAL F—?!?”
On top of that, the throttle’s stuck,
and we’ve miles to go be-fore we can anchor safe.
But at least…[CHORUS]

VERSE 5 (TEMPTRESS)
In 50 knots, our mainsail tore,
and a solar panel fell overboard,
and the solar arch collapsed behind our heads.
When the storm was over (as far as we could tell),
we put the anchor down, and it was rolly as hell,
as we collapsed into our salty, soaking beds.
But at least…[CHORUS]

VERSE 6 (HURRICANE ISAIAS)
We’d all made progress, we’d come far,
But then came a hurricane on the radar,
So we had to backtrack to safety and calm our t—.
Our boats were shaken up like a pina colada,
and we just kept thinking, “We’ve just gotta
re-lax,” (between our laughing and crying fits)!
Just hoping that…

STORM CHORUS
The boat will not tip over (x2)
We couldn’t tip it over even if we tried.
The boat will not tip over, and
when this storm is over,
we can say that we made all made it out alive.

VERSE 7 (LITTLE SISTER)
Just within sight of our destination,
(with failing steerage and no navigation),
the navy is called out to tow us in.
And the navy runs aground, and gets caught in a net
and everyone aboard just starts to regret
all the s— we’ve gotten ourselves in.
But at least…

ARRIVAL CHORUS
The boat did not tip over (x2)
We couldn’t tip it over even if we tried.
The boat did not tip over.
Now that our trip is over,
we can say that we made it to the other side.

VERSE 8 (REUNITED)
And now that all is done and said,
our boats are busted, but we’re not dead.
So we sit and raise a glass with all our friends.
And we all thank our lucky stars,
for salty stories and battle scars, and say,
“Man, I can’t wait to go sailing again!”
