Sailing fulltime, can I trust my husband? A few boat jobs and Margy cooks up a seafood risotto..Ep25
June 03, 2020 by Cruising Sunrise | Language: EN Play Time: 00:20:50 | SAILING YOUTUBERS

.We spend the last two weeks of lockdown in Gulf Harbour Marina. We returned to Gulf Harbour from our lockdown location of Great Barrier Island so that Margy could see the eye doctor. Whilst there, Margy cooks up a seafood risotto with fresh snapper and scallops we caught ourselves (we collected the scallops at Whangarei in the scallop season back in January). Russ tries to do a good job of cutting Margy’s hair…..his first attempt! Margy was a bit nervous about letting Russ touch her hair but it was getting long and needed a trim and there were no hairdressers. I gave some fairly detailed instructions including to only cut half an inch at a time. Don’t tell him but he did a great job and Margy was impressed with his skills and attention to detail. We install underwater lights on our dinghy – Wow!! This means that when we go ashore for sundowners and return to Sunrise in the dark, the lights would enable us to see coral bommies and rocks. It really isn’t just for showing off!! Margy explains sprouting seeds at sea. Russ cleans the boat speed transducer by taking out the through hull fitting (without sinking the boat) and services the winches on the lifting platform. Russ also explains how the sensors and electric motors on the lifting platform work to lift the dinghy out of the water. Its something we have had quite a lot of trouble with, so we’re keen to now keep it in good working order. We sail to Kawau Island and spend the night there before sailing in lovely southerly winds, to Whangarei and use our Code D downwind sail. The Code D is on an endless line furler.
