Sailing Fiji - drift dive over 2000m drop off. More hunter gathering, a bit of bird watching...Ep34
We sailed from Rakiraki to Namena, an island between Vanua Levu and Viti Levu. The island of Namena is surrounded by reef that the Lonely Planet says has the best diving in Fiji. We did a drift dive over a 2000m drop off and we also dived a pinnacle. We walked on the beach and saw hermit crabs eating a decaying coconut and falling over themselves. We did loads of snorkelling in the beautiful clear water and saw hundreds of red footed boobies, long tailed tropicbirds, sooty terns and frigate birds – real treats for bird lovers. We sailed to Savusavu, the main port on Viti Levu and anchored just off the Jacques Costeau diving resort on the peninsula near Savusave. Here were snorkelling, kite surfed and dived. We walked to the botanical gardens nearby that specialised in palms from all over the world.
