We lift anchor and move to Paihia and take a short dinghy ride to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. We learn the history of the signing of the treaty between the British and Maori. We marvel at the traditional Maori Waka ( war canoe) then experience a traditional Maori welcome. From here we sail up to Whangaroa Harbour trying to catch a kingfish along the way. It’s a perfect sailing day and some dolphins remind us off how beautiful the world is. Pekapeka Bay is a truly spectacular anchorage. One of the many walks is the famous Duke’s Nose track. It was a real adventure with lots of climbing and scrambling up near vertical rocks and through beautiful forest. I still have not caught a kingfish so we jump back in our AB tender and shoot out to Stephenson island to try! On the way back we speed in our dinghy through a hole in a rock.
