Horizontal Waterfall, what!! not possible. OH YES IT IS !!!! Sailing through the Kimberley region.

We get fuel at Dog Leg Creek from Mick the barge operator and then venture into Silver Gull Creek where we anchor for a few days. We met Robyn and intrepid 70 year old woman sailing on her own with great skill and determination. We went fishing and caught a lovely big mackerell, some coral trout and a golden trevally. Next morning we collected Robyn to go to Crocodile Creek and we explored the waterfall and swam in the pool above the waterfall. It was so beautiful we took some other new friends Mark and Heather from Whiskers to Crocodile Creek and Mark set off into the hills looking for crystals. Heather and Margy climbed the hill and lounged in the spectacular pools. After Silver Gull Creek, we boated around to Horizontal Falls. We took the dinghy and explored nearby waterways and marvelled at the coloured rock formations, one in particular which was unbelievable – folded and twisted with pink and white rock in thin layers. Then we were lucky enough to book a place on a jet boat that went through the falls with about 30 people on board. It had three 350 horse power engines and an excellent skipper who took us through the narrow opening – there was only a metre spare on each side. The water was rushing through the small opening and there were huge whirlpools everywhere that pushed us in all sort of directions. Fortunately all engines were running well and we were thrilled to go through the waterfalls several times, just missing the massive rock walls on each side, each time. It was completely exhilarating. There are actually 2 horizontal waterfalls and we were lucky enough to be there at a time that the boat could go through both on the same trip. We then retired back to Sunrise for a beautiful sunset. Next morning we booked a flight on a helicopter which was similarly very exciting. Our pilot went over Turtle Bay with beautiful clear blue water and lots of turtles, shark and rays swimming around. We flew over the Horizontal Waterfalls and again marvelled at the huge amounts of water bursting through the gaps. This ended a very memorable couple of days.
