Incredible Build: Mistress’ NEW RIG – Episode 176

Building SY Mistress continues to capture the heart of sailing enthusiasts with every exciting development. In episode 176, viewers get an incredible look at the new rig construction process, led by master boat builder Cookie from SNH Spars. Revisiting and reviewing the existing setup was necessary as the project advances towards completion.

The Expert’s Touch

Cookie, a well-respected name in the industry, has played a significant role in Mistress’s progress. With years of experience behind him, Cookie understands what it takes to make a sailboat rig stand out for its quality and strength.

The Meeting – Pre-Rig Assembly

In this crucial moment, building SY Mistress gets to delve into all aspects of the rig, from measurements and adjustments to additional elements such as the radar frame. With Cookie’s help, they make sure that everything is covered, ensuring a solid foundation for their vessel.

The Rigging Plan

A highlight of this episode involves meticulous planning and coordination. They carefully discuss details like bonding compounds, the pulley system, block-and-tackle arrangement, and other components required for the rig’s smooth functioning. By ensuring that all parts fit perfectly and work harmoniously, they guarantee a successful build.

Strength in Numbers

The conversation with Cookie gives an insight into understanding the weight and tension that go into assembling a rig. By sharing his expertise, he emphasizes the significance of a balance between strength and practicality. His advice on using gas springs versus block-and-tackle systems is particularly enlightening.

Gratitude to the Master Craftsmen

The video concludes with a heartfelt thanks to Cookie and Peter for their dedication and craftsmanship in building Mistress’s rig. With this episode, viewers can appreciate not only the beauty of sailing but also the incredible skill and patience required to construct such an essential part of the vessel.

What To Expect From The Build

The episode’s closing thoughts leave fans eager to witness future installments and follow the progress of building SY Mistress. The commitment shown by all involved parties will undoubtedly result in a stunning yacht, embodying both style and functionality.

This is the trip to see and talk with Cookie of S&H Spars on the Gold Coast who, along with Peter, designed, fabricated and put all of the myriad of components together for Mistress' masthead, cutter designed sailing Rig - mast, boom, spinnaker pole, standing rigging and the multitude of other necessary spars rigging gear and parts - and WHAT A SURPRISE it was to SEE and RE-AQUAINT myself with JUST HOW HIGH QUALITY and STRONG this complete Rig for Mistress is! I hope that you enjoy this technical discussion I had with Cookie, a man with nearly a lifetime of building Spars and Rigs experience for thousands of yachts, both the smaller and the Huge and Glamourous, and who has an incredible wealth of VERY PRACTICAL, STRONG and QUALITY methods to build and supply VERY DURABLE, PERFORMANCE yacht Rigs! Mistress is designed by one of the highly respected Dutch naval architects E.G. Van de Stadt, a Caribbean design, length 40ft/12m, beam 13ft/3.9m, draft 5ft/1.5m. Her hull and decks are built in mild steel and I have built her on my own and am also fitting her out on my own. I have not built any type of boat before Mistress. There were many reasons why, but the work stopped,... However, the work has re-started, thankfully, and I am on an exciting journey to finish Mistress and then go on my sailing adventures,...
