BLUEWATER BATTLE AXE! This Steel Sailboat Will Go Anywhere! $29k | TOUR
Canadian Ken and I have seen a lot of fiberglass, but this was a first — a steel-hulled sailboat built like a ship and ready to cross oceans. Meet “Western Way,” a 34-foot steel cutter Irish Rover designed by Merritt Walter — the naval architect behind Rover Marine.
She’s got all the right numbers:

Powered by a trusty Yanmar 3GM30 (only 1,100 hours), long keel / transom-hung rudder, and a full suite of sails + electronics — she’s ready to go wherever your wanderlust leads.
“Western Way” isn’t just pretty on paper — she’s been there. Her owners double-handed from Newburyport to Ireland in 29 days, then cruised the Hebrides, UK, Portugal, and Spain. From the Canaries she rode the Trades to Barbados, the Caribbean, Bermuda, and back home. That’s about as proven as it gets.
This is a true bluewater battle axe — strong, steady, and elegant in her own no-nonsense way. Now for sale by her original owners. Obviously, you’ll want to get a survey — but boats like this don’t come around often.
