Canadian Ken and I tracked down a true barn-find time capsule — a 1974 Cheoy Lee Offshore 31 Ketch that’s been sitting under a hoop barn for three years, just waiting for the right sailor to bring her back to life.
Only about 150 of these Herreshoff-inspired classics were ever built. Designed off the Bermuda 30, she’s a solid-fiberglass, full-keel cruiser with integral concrete ballast, teak decks, and that unmistakable Cheoy Lee craftsmanship.
Below decks you’ll find warm teak-and-holly floors, a cozy galley with room for a propane stove, a solid-fuel heater, V-berth forward, and captain-and-mate bunks in the salon. Power comes from a tough 31-hp Universal diesel, and she carries a full suite of sails — main, mizzen, jib, and spinnaker — plus wood masts, new stainless lifelines (2020), and new steering cables (2022).
The price? $8,000, including yard stands and extras. Plus the boat can stay where she is until she's ready to launch.
The challenge? She’s been on the hard for three seasons and needs some TLC before she sails again.
