Working an Office Job while Living Off Grid in our Tiny Home(s)

While remote work is the absolute dream, it’s just not a reality for us at the moment. We go into the office 2 days a week, which can make things a little complicated at times. We can’t actually take our boat to”the office” so to speak, so we have to commute on the ferry and live in our camper van conversion a couple nights a week.

A typical day working from the boat involves waking up, making coffee, taking our dinghy to shore, finding some wifi, walking on our lunch break, taking our meetings in the van, and then celebrating the end of the day beside the water somewhere! On days where we have to travel back to the city, we often use the ferry ride to get a bit more work done (including editing these videos)!

At the end of the day, we’re fortunate to be able to make this lifestyle work and appreciate the change in pace during the week. We also use our trips into the city to pick up supplies and groceries which are harder to get on the boat.

For anyone new to the channel, we live on a 30 ft sailboat full time and recently moved to an off-grid moorage the summer months! This means that we get all of our power from the solar system or by running the Diesel engine, and we have to pack in all of our water and food using our little dinghy with an outboard motor. Blue Moon is a 1978 Catalina 30 sailing vessel which we acquired in 2020. One year later we decided it was time for a road trip and built out a 1998 Delica to drive across the country. Now we live aboard the boat full-time, take weekend trips in the van, and explore this beautiful world.

Thanks for watching!
