The Rain Keeps Coming… Living on a Sailboat during BC’s Extreme Rainfall

Over the past few weeks, British Columbia has been experiencing a huge amount of rainfall and destructive weather and it is causing some major problems! They have been calling it an “atmospheric river.” This weather event has devastated several major travel routes in the province because of flooding, mudslides and washouts and caused the evacuation of entire towns like Princeton and Merritt.

What is it like to live on a sailboat during huge rainstorms here in British Columbia? It actually isn’t too bad, as long as we keep an eye on all the leaks coming into the boat…We were very lucky to make it home before the rainfall washed-out all of the main highway access to Vancouver and the lower mainland.

Thanks to everyone from our channel’s community who has checked in on during these times. At this point our footage from the Cross-Canada drive is a few weeks behind and we are safe and sound on the boat. We will continue to release the footage from our trip as Gillian finishes editing it (we got a lot of footage so it will take some time!)

As we mentioned in the video, our hearts are with the people of our province who have been affected by this emergency. The loss of property, life-stock, livelihood and peace of mind is very disruptive and adds more challenges to life when there is already so much going on with the ongoing pandemic, economic turbulence, recovery from the wildfire season and so much more. We hope everyone watching is safe and hasn’t suffered too much through this crisis in the province.
